I have been teaching the Alexander Technique since 2013. The Technique is a simple and effective approach to reducing tension and improving general wellbeing. Learning to use our body with greater ease and awareness can often help to reduce pain. It can also allow us to get things done more easily and perform better.
The Technique is used by many musicians and performers to optimise performance skills and prevent injury.
Learning to apply the Alexander Technique in daily living can often help people to approach:
- Back, Neck & Shoulder Pain
- Postural Issues
- Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI)
- Stress, Anxiety & Breathing Problems
- Music, Sport & Performance
The Alexander Technique is a simple and practical method of self-care that can be applied to all kinds of activities, from performing with an instrument to working at a computer. Rather than being a therapy, it is a learning process in which you can learn to use your body with less effort, allowing you to move and go about your life freely and easily.
What happens in a lesson?
Alexander Technique teachers use practical hands-on guidance and verbal instruction to allow your body to release unnecessary tension and to guide you into better balance & alignment. This allows you to restore more natural patterns of co-ordination and prevent unhelpful habits of movement & thinking.
Further Information
Lessons are taught one-to-one and Alexander Technique teachers train for 3 years full time. I am professionally accredited by the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique (STAT) which was founded in 1955.
A 2008 study in the British Medical Journal found that lessons in the Alexander Technique can offer a significant reduction in long-term back pain.
